With the COVID shutting things down, rental car companies had massive fleets to deal with - fleets that were sitting still and costing money. Many did the best they could in reducing the size of their fleets, which seemed like a good short term strategy.
Then things started opening up, people began to move about and rental vehicles were back in demand. Problem is that when the rental agencies try to rebuild the fleet, there is a chip shortage causing a vehicle shortage! What to do now?
Christopher Elliott, a Washington Post columnist and consumer advocate has been following this story and we had the opportunity to talk with him on this episode of In Wheel Time Car Talk.
