The term 'rat rod' has always been somewhat generic in that it could mean anything built out of anything to look like nothing in particular. Usually there is a lot of 'heavy patina' involved that use to be called surface rust, and there may be some actual rust involved. Usually it is the uniqueness of the build that gets attention.
Randy Savage's '28 Roadster fits that mold perfectly. Some slight surface rust, a roadster top, pickup bed, and some engineering marvels on the engine that has no cover. For example it is hard not to notice the old hand-crank drill that has been incorporated into the linkage for the dual quadrajet carbs or the way the fender well headers morph into a set of sidepipes. Things that make ya' go hmmmm.....

The Tailpipe & Taco Cruise-in is held at Lupe' Tortillas restaurant in Katy, Texas, 8a-11amCT. There is always a great mix of vehicles ranging from classics, to muscle cars, sports cars, imports, pickup trucks, hot rods, and even some sling shots show up when the sun is shining.
In addition to being a great cruize in event, this is also a fund raiser supporting Shirley's Kids - a foundation established by the Queen of Drag Racing, Ms. Shirley Muldowney. The restaurant opens early with breakfast tacos, coffee, and a wide variety of beverages with all the processed going to Shirley's Kids. Shirley actually attended one of the 2019 events, and when she wasn't talking on the air with In Wheel Time, she was signing autographs all morning. We do hope that she gets to come this way again.
