Since the first race in 1916, teams of 'racers' have been challenging the the hill. The very first winner established a time of 20:55.600 to cover the 12.42 miles that contains 156 turns.
What started as a promotion to attract tourist to the area and a new hotel in particular has turned into an annual international event.
In this segment, we talk with Richard Tomlin, Houston Area SCCA Executive that is also serving to support car #888, a Viper driven by Raymund Guerro. We learn some about the history of the race and the modern challenges of a race that starts at 9,390 ft above sea level and finishes at 14,115 - making for some unique mechanical challenges.
