Welcome to another In Wheel Time podcast, a 30-minute mini version of the In Wheel Time Car Show that airs live every Saturday morning, 8 to 11 am.
00:00:10.134 --> 00:00:19.681
Central Boy.
00:00:19.681 --> 00:00:23.047
You know what, If there was ever a way to cut it any closer?
00:00:23.687 --> 00:00:24.850
Wow.
00:00:25.170 --> 00:00:26.614
That's an award winner right there.
00:00:26.614 --> 00:00:27.175
I don't know how.
00:00:27.339 --> 00:00:34.871
I'm not involved in this, but between David, don and Mike they seem to reach deep into their bag of tricks.
00:00:34.871 --> 00:00:40.448
Pull out a handful of pixie dust, sprinkle it all over this equipment and it works.
00:00:40.448 --> 00:00:42.424
That's what I see.
00:00:43.079 --> 00:00:44.003
Did you record that?
00:00:44.085 --> 00:00:54.665
I hope we're going gonna play that back welcome, incredible welcome to hewlett park in granbury, texas, and the lone star street rod association's 49th annual state run.
00:00:54.665 --> 00:00:57.311
This is the end wheel time car talk show.
00:00:57.311 --> 00:01:00.765
Just ahead, more attendees from this weekend's big show.
00:01:00.765 --> 00:01:12.612
Plus, we'll have our regular reviews, including new car reviews, jeff's weekly unique feature, upcoming events, the racing calendar and auto history all on today's In Real Time Car Talk Show.
00:01:12.612 --> 00:01:18.378
Howdy, along with Mike out of this world, mars, who's hiding behind a speaker over there, he's adjusting, he's making adjustments.
00:01:18.397 --> 00:01:20.846
Well, okay, I'm glad that he's making the adjustments.
00:01:20.846 --> 00:01:22.341
We need more Jeff Zekin.
00:01:22.341 --> 00:01:30.884
He is next to me, and on the other side of me is David Ainsley, so we're having the Star Spangled.
00:01:30.924 --> 00:01:32.326
Banner sung.
00:01:32.927 --> 00:01:33.429
Let's listen.
00:01:33.429 --> 00:01:35.593
Can you pop that up?
00:01:35.593 --> 00:01:47.480
And our flag was still there.
00:01:47.480 --> 00:02:12.810
Oh say, does that star-spangled banner yet wave O'er the land of the free and the home of the brave?
00:02:12.810 --> 00:02:27.348
That was beautiful, thank you, in honor to our country and our flag.
00:02:28.060 --> 00:02:29.646
God bless you all for being here.
00:02:29.646 --> 00:02:31.937
We'll have a good time through the day.
00:02:31.937 --> 00:02:38.170
We have that freedom in our country that we can do these kind of events in honor of our country flag.
00:02:38.170 --> 00:02:44.628
For those of you that are participating, we're going to listen in on this for just a second.
00:02:44.628 --> 00:02:51.406
The shuttle will start running from the back gate and it will run continuously.
00:02:51.406 --> 00:02:53.513
Now he's just talking about homework, so we can continue on.
00:02:53.513 --> 00:02:55.326
We're waiting for our next guest.
00:02:55.560 --> 00:02:56.905
We've got a car on stage, we do.
00:02:56.905 --> 00:03:00.125
Oh there, she is right there.
00:03:00.125 --> 00:03:01.770
Yes, but wait.
00:03:02.782 --> 00:03:04.268
The ladies are waddling down here.
00:03:04.268 --> 00:03:06.515
I didn't mean that.
00:03:07.078 --> 00:03:07.759
We got Tammy right there.
00:03:08.661 --> 00:03:09.443
I know it's Tammy.
00:03:09.443 --> 00:03:10.805
Did you hear me?
00:03:10.805 --> 00:03:11.825
Did you hear me say that?
00:03:11.885 --> 00:03:12.927
Well, I think Good, I'm glad.
00:03:12.948 --> 00:03:15.572
I heard the waddling Because I would have gotten in deep trouble if somebody had heard that.
00:03:15.592 --> 00:03:16.334
I'll repeat it if you want.
00:03:22.687 --> 00:03:27.114
Ladies and gentlemen putting her Thank you so much.
00:03:27.814 --> 00:03:28.575
Thank you, Tammy.
00:03:30.282 --> 00:03:30.965
Yes, that's David.
00:03:30.965 --> 00:03:32.604
Just said it anywhere there, that's fine.
00:03:32.725 --> 00:03:33.549
Thank you very much.
00:03:34.661 --> 00:03:35.504
Are you going to be our guest?
00:03:35.504 --> 00:03:36.206
Oh, good Sit down.
00:03:36.227 --> 00:03:36.407
Yes.
00:03:38.061 --> 00:03:39.405
So, Leslie.
00:03:39.405 --> 00:03:40.468
Tammy Duley.
00:03:41.100 --> 00:03:44.105
Kathy Tammy Duley, donna Tammy Duley.
00:03:44.105 --> 00:03:46.587
Yeah, becky Tammy Duley, becky dooly, kathy tammy dooley, donna tammy dooly.
00:03:46.608 --> 00:03:51.625
Yeah, and this is tammy dooly becky, and you're a lovely wife kathy leslie becky.
00:03:51.784 --> 00:03:54.510
Don, I don't think it's gonna go.
00:03:54.531 --> 00:04:05.054
Yeah, I was gonna say that so apparently microphone pull it up tight apparently you are a big, huge star here yeah, you're something.
00:04:05.139 --> 00:04:07.566
You're all that and a bag of chips, because we just heard all about you.
00:04:07.566 --> 00:04:07.826
Yeah.
00:04:09.002 --> 00:04:10.108
And timing is everything.
00:04:10.620 --> 00:04:12.466
I pay them a lot.
00:04:13.669 --> 00:04:18.411
Exactly Well, tammy Dooley, we're up in your neck of the country, isn't it great?
00:04:18.411 --> 00:04:19.524
Thank you for having us.
00:04:19.543 --> 00:04:20.327
Thank you for the breeze.
00:04:21.439 --> 00:04:28.545
Hey, we've had rain for days and then this weekend is perfect, yeah it is yeah, yeah, but look at this, look at all these people.
00:04:28.545 --> 00:04:29.709
Is this not amazing?
00:04:30.091 --> 00:04:30.673
it truly is.
00:04:30.673 --> 00:04:36.067
I mean, you know, in years past it's always been great, but I think this is a bigger show it is.
00:04:36.468 --> 00:04:42.596
It is a bigger show yeah so, yeah, we're very excited they come into town and and everybody loves it.
00:04:42.596 --> 00:04:49.067
I mean, obviously you see the cars everywhere and people who don't know what's going on are like what's going on?
00:04:49.067 --> 00:04:50.250
That's cool.
00:04:50.250 --> 00:04:51.151
Follow the cars.
00:04:51.351 --> 00:04:53.355
Yeah, we saw them at the restaurants.
00:04:56.800 --> 00:04:59.165
Well we met your biggest fan, the former mayor of Ninh, Dan Hewlett.
00:04:59.165 --> 00:05:00.788
Is you talk about a rock star?
00:05:00.788 --> 00:05:01.310
He's great.
00:05:01.550 --> 00:05:02.012
He is great.
00:05:04.500 --> 00:05:06.223
He was mayor, I don't know how many years?
00:05:06.244 --> 00:05:23.752
10 years, okay great, so you know more than I do, and they named the park after him no, they did well, I think that wasn't he the one that kind of uh gave, gave you the the nod to come on in we, we need you and please come and work here he kind of probably got the ball rolling, and so that was great you were out in west te, from what I understand.
00:05:23.771 --> 00:05:35.605
Yes, I was in Midland and I had a place here and he knew my background and we sold our company and next thing, I know, here I am and, you know, loved every minute.
00:05:35.605 --> 00:05:45.615
I was only going to work a year or two and Because I was really going to retire when we sold the company and I was too young that's at least what I tell myself.
00:05:45.697 --> 00:05:55.423
Right Got to have something to do Right, right, so yeah, so it's been great and we've really done a lot.
00:05:55.423 --> 00:06:08.752
My background was managing convention centers and doing events and stuff, so it was a natural fit, and so the conference center here is part of my department and I just have so much fun with it and what is Tom slash, mike do?
00:06:08.752 --> 00:06:12.264
Well, what he did besides being your husband he's.
00:06:12.264 --> 00:06:18.548
He's now retired and he told someone last night at dinner he was my arm candy, so there you go.
00:06:18.569 --> 00:06:20.211
Hey, that's just like us.
00:06:20.211 --> 00:06:21.290
Same thing with with us.
00:06:21.331 --> 00:06:23.512
Yeah, where's Leslie?
00:06:23.512 --> 00:06:24.812
That's a good line for me.
00:06:24.812 --> 00:06:25.934
She's waddling up this way.
00:06:25.934 --> 00:06:27.153
She's waddling up this way.
00:06:27.173 --> 00:06:29.995
Yeah, you're all waddling he is supposed to pop in.
00:06:29.995 --> 00:06:32.456
He had to go take care of a truck situation.
00:06:32.456 --> 00:06:37.959
His truck got dented with the last hailstorm and so he's getting a rental truck and blah, blah, blah.
00:06:37.980 --> 00:06:44.463
So he's supposed to pop in somewhere down here and last year you had to leave because you're having a grandbaby.
00:06:44.463 --> 00:06:46.103
Was that last year?
00:06:46.343 --> 00:06:49.005
Yes, yes, who will turn one on Tuesday?
00:06:49.045 --> 00:06:49.906
There you go so.
00:06:50.005 --> 00:06:51.987
I'm headed to Angel Fire Tuesday.
00:06:52.007 --> 00:06:52.908
David wrote that down.
00:06:52.908 --> 00:06:54.007
He's got it in his diary.
00:06:54.470 --> 00:06:57.180
Yes, to see my little Mike yeah.
00:06:57.529 --> 00:07:00.699
Well, I'm her arm candy.
00:07:00.918 --> 00:07:01.882
Okay, I love it.
00:07:01.882 --> 00:07:02.672
Yeah, I'm her arm candy.
00:07:02.711 --> 00:07:03.093
Okay, I love it.
00:07:03.093 --> 00:07:10.244
Yeah, so she's a schoolteacher, so wherever it is that we go in Sugar Land, Texas, Ms A, Ms A, Ms A, Ms A.
00:07:10.244 --> 00:07:10.970
Yeah, exactly.
00:07:11.069 --> 00:07:11.350
And.
00:07:11.411 --> 00:07:12.656
I just kind of back away and go.
00:07:12.656 --> 00:07:13.478
Well, there she is.
00:07:14.490 --> 00:07:15.374
No, that's great.
00:07:15.413 --> 00:07:16.819
I know it is, I love to see it.
00:07:17.089 --> 00:07:25.074
It's wonderful and you know Mike had a big career and he managed convention centers and venues his whole life and big arenas.
00:07:25.113 --> 00:07:25.934
Is that where you met him?
00:07:25.934 --> 00:07:27.834
Yes, you met him at work.
00:07:27.995 --> 00:07:28.855
I met him at work.
00:07:28.855 --> 00:07:30.216
You will laugh.
00:07:30.216 --> 00:07:45.202
On our wedding night he had Clint Black in concert and we went and ate Mexican food and he went to work and so we tell everybody oh my God, oh yeah, short honeymoon.
00:07:45.202 --> 00:07:50.524
We tell everybody that Clint Black played at our wedding reception and he did.
00:07:50.564 --> 00:07:52.586
He did Because we were both there.
00:07:52.826 --> 00:07:54.706
There you go, there you go.
00:07:54.706 --> 00:07:56.067
Did he bring you up on stage?
00:07:56.088 --> 00:08:06.278
No, no, mike was working and I wasn't working in that particular industry at the time.
00:08:06.298 --> 00:08:07.964
I was um working for hilton hotels doing convention sales and big events.
00:08:07.964 --> 00:08:08.689
So that was your wedding reception.
00:08:08.709 --> 00:08:18.995
Yeah, you didn't have time for that we got married in his office by the county judge and it's been 35 years wow, so you're not old enough yes, yes 45 for us.
00:08:19.377 --> 00:08:20.237
Oh, I love that.
00:08:20.237 --> 00:08:21.240
45, I love that.
00:08:21.519 --> 00:08:22.161
There he is.
00:08:22.161 --> 00:08:24.605
There's Tom, I mean Mike right there.
00:08:24.625 --> 00:08:27.709
You've got to come around here.
00:08:28.190 --> 00:08:31.040
This is my arm candy right here, come around here.
00:08:32.475 --> 00:08:33.851
You know it's so funny.
00:08:33.851 --> 00:08:36.840
Ladies and gentlemen, the Dooley family.
00:08:36.860 --> 00:08:36.980
The.
00:08:37.020 --> 00:08:37.601
Dooley family.
00:08:45.414 --> 00:08:49.443
Well, you know, know, it's uh, it's interesting because of all the years that we've been coming up here.
00:08:49.443 --> 00:08:52.859
We just heard about you when I told her I said yeah, you know what?
00:08:52.859 --> 00:08:54.241
I don't think you really.
00:08:54.241 --> 00:09:06.850
Yeah, that really is true and you know that we, I guess I have really kind of not made fun of, but brought you into the fold of our humor here and started calling you Tom Dooley.
00:09:07.292 --> 00:09:08.557
So I don't know you as Mike.
00:09:08.909 --> 00:09:09.914
In my world you're Tom.
00:09:10.350 --> 00:09:17.104
Well, and Mayor said they kept calling him Tom and I told him no, it's Mike, it's Mike.
00:09:17.104 --> 00:09:19.960
And he said then I figured out what they're doing.
00:09:20.471 --> 00:09:23.159
We even sang to you last show we sang to you.
00:09:23.159 --> 00:09:25.113
Well, that's the problem.
00:09:25.113 --> 00:09:29.042
A lot of people are, you guys are Well him.
00:09:29.182 --> 00:09:31.918
I'm not yeah he's the one that brought it up, because he's old enough.
00:09:33.291 --> 00:09:34.336
Mike hears that a lot.
00:09:34.630 --> 00:09:36.407
Pleasure to meet you finally, I love all of you.
00:09:36.929 --> 00:09:39.832
I watch what you do, especially when Tammy's on there.
00:09:39.832 --> 00:09:40.734
You've got a good show.
00:09:40.734 --> 00:09:41.354
Jamie's on there.
00:09:41.394 --> 00:09:46.139
Well, thank you, and we appreciate her a lot and it's always a pleasure.
00:09:46.139 --> 00:09:58.011
You know, it's fun because I don't look at it Because this could turn into one big commercial and some people may say, well, it is a big commercial, well, okay, if you want to call it that.
00:09:58.011 --> 00:10:21.335
But this is really kind of like family, because there are certain people that are associated with us, whether they like it or not, that we've brought into the fold, and you're one of them and we feel really close to you and I know that Tom Mike would appreciate that, because we respect what you do and you've got a great personality and you fit with us.
00:10:21.335 --> 00:10:22.636
You know what I'm saying.
00:10:22.898 --> 00:10:28.231
Well, you know, that's one of the really great things about what I do this weekend.
00:10:28.231 --> 00:10:40.321
It's all about these wonderful automobiles and Rick Neely and all of this we love, and then tomorrow it may be some other sporting event or whatever it is, and so it changes all the time.
00:10:40.321 --> 00:10:43.785
So we get to see all that, or a big fishing tournament or a big.
00:10:44.010 --> 00:10:59.945
You know, we had a literally had a brain surgeon convention not too long ago so we weren't invited to that, but see what you say for that, all the activities going on, these ladies do that with us.
00:10:59.945 --> 00:11:09.980
It's like our little road show, our little circus going out in the community as well, not as large as yours and doesn't have as big an impact as yours, but we help, support as well.
00:11:10.601 --> 00:11:11.423
I know it's great.
00:11:11.423 --> 00:11:15.020
I told them what you said last night at dinner, that you were my arm candy.
00:11:16.970 --> 00:11:23.201
Tammy's really modest she's maybe the best in Texas at what she does, that's what we heard.
00:11:23.269 --> 00:11:25.236
I told you I pay these people.
00:11:25.236 --> 00:11:26.220
I pay these people.
00:11:27.591 --> 00:11:28.335
No, I don't get paid.
00:11:28.335 --> 00:11:29.533
I'm an honest man.
00:11:29.553 --> 00:11:30.357
You're the candy.
00:11:30.831 --> 00:11:32.277
Once I bought, I stayed bought.
00:11:33.530 --> 00:11:40.176
Well, I mean, I know that you're proud to have her as your wife, but she's, you know, a down-home, honest person and that means the world.
00:11:40.176 --> 00:11:42.902
You know a down home honest person and that means the world.
00:11:42.902 --> 00:12:04.562
You know, because, as you know, in our business and I consider broadcasting is kind of we all kind of in this self-promoting kind of thing or whatever it is that you're doing that there are certain people that you, you just you, go out and you attach yourself to because they're honest, they, they're fun to work with and it's a pleasure.
00:12:04.562 --> 00:12:16.402
And that's what this event and you've brought us to this event, the Lone Star Street Rod Association, we got a chance to meet you and it's just been really fulfilling for us.
00:12:16.402 --> 00:12:21.562
It makes it worthwhile, because this is the furthest we've ever traveled to do our show.
00:12:21.929 --> 00:12:30.573
We've done lots of shows and this year in particular we've done a lot of remote broadcasts at various car shows across mainly around the Houston area.
00:12:30.573 --> 00:12:33.014
But this one is special.
00:12:33.014 --> 00:12:41.717
It takes us a while to get here, we work to get here and in fact I just got finished visiting my daughter in Denver, and so we had arranged it.
00:12:41.717 --> 00:12:50.881
So we drove to Dallas-Fort Worth Airport, took the flight to Denver back here, then drove here with the car that we left at the airport.
00:12:50.881 --> 00:12:53.503
Now we'll drive back today, but you get it.
00:12:53.503 --> 00:12:56.844
I mean it's work, but it's not work, it's fun to do.
00:12:57.163 --> 00:13:06.048
Well, and see, that's music to my ears, because all these people are doing, you know, something similar going out of their way to come to Granbury.
00:13:06.048 --> 00:13:12.749
They have choices, they can go anywhere they want and hopefully they have the best experience, and then they come back and visit all the time.
00:13:12.990 --> 00:13:18.501
Well, you know, Tammy, it's funny because somebody asked me what's the deal with the car thing?
00:13:18.501 --> 00:13:18.982
What do you do?
00:13:18.982 --> 00:13:25.576
Well, you know, the cars are just the object, but it's the friendship and the partnerships.
00:13:25.576 --> 00:13:28.500
I would have not met him or any of these guys.
00:13:28.500 --> 00:13:30.123
Well, David, I've known from broadcasting.
00:13:30.143 --> 00:13:30.823
She just met a student.
00:13:30.823 --> 00:13:32.485
Miss A just met a student.
00:13:32.505 --> 00:13:39.803
There you go, and so it's one of those kind of deals where it's the camaraderie, it's the friendship, the people that you know that bring you all together.
00:13:39.803 --> 00:13:42.056
It's like going to a reunion party, kind of.
00:13:42.417 --> 00:13:48.522
Yeah, it's exactly the same, you know, whether we're doing a dog show, whether we're doing whatever it is.
00:13:48.522 --> 00:13:54.099
That is the commonality brings the people here, and so we just appreciate it.
00:13:54.099 --> 00:14:01.240
We know that they have lots of places they can go, yeah, and so we just try to make this a good place for them.
00:14:01.360 --> 00:14:01.902
And what a day.
00:14:01.902 --> 00:14:03.075
There's not a cloud in the sky.
00:14:03.389 --> 00:14:05.618
we just try to make this a good, a good place and what a day.
00:14:05.658 --> 00:14:07.885
There's not a cloud in the sky, nice breeze it's, it's so beautiful now are both of you comparing?
00:14:08.047 --> 00:14:11.640
the last two weeks, uh, no, uh, midland well, we're not really from midland.
00:14:11.660 --> 00:14:12.806
We were working working there.
00:14:12.947 --> 00:14:14.071
Oh, where are you from?
00:14:14.071 --> 00:14:22.283
I grew up in oak cliff, so okay, and you I was uh army brat, so all over the world yeah my father was.
00:14:22.302 --> 00:14:25.092
That's where she learned her skills all over the world.
00:14:25.494 --> 00:14:27.937
Well, it does help um one year.
00:14:27.937 --> 00:14:29.662
You won't believe this.
00:14:29.662 --> 00:14:31.772
One year I actually had to move schools.
00:14:31.852 --> 00:14:42.339
I was in, I think, sixth grade, seven times seven times one year and because my dad was shipped all over the place and so you learn real quick to.
00:14:42.339 --> 00:14:44.984
You meet a lot of great diverse people.
00:14:44.984 --> 00:14:46.171
You have to adapt.
00:14:46.171 --> 00:14:54.856
You make friends really fast and lifelong friends all over the world, and it was one of it was a privilege being a military.
00:14:54.856 --> 00:14:59.090
You know child, sure, yeah, and where's my brother, who is wonderful?
00:14:59.090 --> 00:15:09.614
Uh, he did the opposite approach, you know he, he didn't like to be pulled out of one situation and he was more one place forever.
00:15:09.614 --> 00:15:10.761
But I loved it.
00:15:10.761 --> 00:15:11.707
I loved it.
00:15:12.471 --> 00:15:14.957
Yeah, because well, you're immersed in it from birth.
00:15:15.038 --> 00:15:15.339
I guess.
00:15:16.020 --> 00:15:23.124
You know Well we really want to, you know, just tell you how much this show means, because we've been in the business together.
00:15:23.124 --> 00:15:26.139
She's been on the promotion end and does a lot more than I ever did.
00:15:26.139 --> 00:15:34.644
But these kind of shows are visual shows and they bring people here to town and they usually have money to spend.
00:15:34.644 --> 00:15:35.711
Yeah, I mean, we're not.
00:15:35.711 --> 00:15:37.837
These things don't come cheap.
00:15:38.178 --> 00:15:38.640
Right, correct.
00:15:39.831 --> 00:15:41.357
So it's really good you came here.
00:15:42.350 --> 00:15:43.075
We're proud of it.
00:15:43.075 --> 00:15:45.196
Yeah Well, we are proud to be here.
00:15:45.570 --> 00:15:50.899
It's rolling art actually you know, yes, it is, and I learn something new every time I come.
00:15:50.899 --> 00:16:01.177
We were talking to a gentleman earlier that has a 57 Ford Fairlane, absolutely stunningly beautiful car.
00:16:01.177 --> 00:16:07.491
We'd never met him before and he drove in not too far from here and I told him.
00:16:07.491 --> 00:16:19.873
I said I've never been a Ford guy but that car and he was staying in the hotel with us and I saw it sitting in the hotel and Leslie will tell you I thought, wow, look at that car.
00:16:20.715 --> 00:16:32.062
And then to tell the story about how he bought it, which was interesting because he bought it off of ebay what exactly, and he's the second owner and the second owner of the car.
00:16:32.062 --> 00:16:34.994
He bought it from a family that's a win yeah.
00:16:35.274 --> 00:16:47.197
And it's been completely restored and customized for him, but it still maintains its original look, the paint is magnificent and he drives it everywhere, he doesn't trailer it and that sort of thing.
00:16:47.197 --> 00:17:00.532
And it's interesting because we started talking about the different styles of cars and I didn't realize it, but that particular car outsold the 57 chevy, which is a classic, an icon.
00:17:00.532 --> 00:17:07.852
It's a one-year only car, for the body style on it, um, you know, you hear the tri-fives the 55, 56, 57.
00:17:07.852 --> 00:17:12.501
That one behind you is a 56 and the 57 is completely different.
